How to get closer to Allah as a woman

As a woman, it certainly gets difficult to form a relationship, a true bond with Allah amidst all the house chores and for a few working women, office duties makes it even more difficult.

But certainly, this shouldn’t stop you from following your religion-Islam.

As Muslims, it is important for us to put Allah as the first and foremost priority.

In this article we help you in making a strong relationship with Allah, helping you achieve your goals faster.

1)Effort matters :

Abu Huraira reported:

The Messenger of Allah, PBUH, said,
“Allah Almighty says: I am as My servant expects of Me and I am with him as he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I will remember him in Myself. If he mentions Me in a gathering, I will mention him in a greater gathering. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand, I draw near him by the length of a cubit. When he draws near Me by the length of a cubit, I draw near him by the length of a fathom. When he comes to Me walking, I come to him running.”

Certainly, Allah is all-knowing.

He sees your efforts. He knows you are trying. He knows what’s in your heart. He knows your struggles.

So don’t ever let Shaitan deceive you into thinking anything negative.

Allah notices everything and will surely give you what you deserve at his destined timing.

All you need to do is trust his plans and timing.

2)Your prayers:

Allah says in surah Baqarah –

Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. (2:277)

Salah/prayer is the second pillar of Islam. It is declared to be fardh(compulsory) upon every Muslim.

Focus on praying five times a day. Don’t get demotivated if you fail to pray all five. There’s always scope for improvement.

Try to stay focused while performing your salahs. You can do so by understanding the meaning of the words in the Quran.

Make your prayers as long as possible.

Offering Salah has many benefits including-

  • Creates a bond with Allah
  • You get mindful of Allah (Taqwa)
  • Avoids you from doing unlawful activities.

Definitely, salah is among the most powerful weapons a believer has. It is a strong medium for you to connect with Allah and let your heart out. Make sure you use this weapon to your advantage to the fullest.

3)Quran :

“And We send down the Quran which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.” [Quran 17: 82]

Try reading the Quran as much as possible. The Quran consists of Allah’s words. Reflect on your understanding in your day-to-day life.

Reading the Quran will not only help you in remaining steadfast against life trials but also in understanding the purpose of this life and the hereafter.

It sheds light upon the important factors you should be knowing as a Muslim.

There‘s no doubt that Allah’s Quran should be read with great care.

A slight difference in the pronunciation changes the complete meaning of the words if not the sentence.

4)Give zakat often:

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. There are many ways by which a person can impose zakat:

In the form of cash or its equivalents which are –

  • Food grains
  • Fruits
  • Camel, Sheep, Cattle
  • Gold and silver
  • Movable goods

This zakat is mandatory for every Muslim and should be done within one year of the attainment of the possession.

If you are a working woman and would like to pay your zakat amount, you can ask your husband to do so on your behalf or donate online.

5)Hijab:

Hijab is fardh upon every Muslim woman.

“O prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be recognised and not be abused. And ever is Allah forgiving and merciful.”

Surah al-ahzab, verse 59

Allah says to the woman in the above verse to cover their body parts with outer garments doing so would help the woman in achieving Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.

If you are new to hijab, take small steps so you don’t feel intimidated in the initial days of your hijab journey.

Upgrading to wearing abayas would also help you not to be easily recognised and to receive Allah’s blessings.

6)Fasting:

Allah says-

“O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may develop God-consciousness.” (Quran 2:183).

Fasting has many benefits, apart from spiritual, it is scientifically proven to have many benefits on the human body.

  • Some of these include:
  •  Boosts brain function
  •  Balancing weight
  •  Maintains a healthy heart
  •  Radiant skin
  •  Improves gut functions

And much more!

7)Istighfar:

“And Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.” (Quran, 8:33).

Surely Allah loves those who always turn to Him in repentance.

As humans, we tend to make mistakes all the time.

Allah loves those who sincerely ask for repentance and makes an effort to not make the same mistake twice.

According to Hadith Qudsi :

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said:

The Messenger of Allah SWT said:

“Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him.”
