It was for this reason that there stood since long the need of compiling a dictionary which could serve the student’s purpose suitably.

The care has been taken to avoid as far as possible the style of stuffing all possible meanings and shades of meanings and mentioning of all parts of speech in which a word might possibly be used. Naturally it would be futile and cumbrous to young learners to lead them to study of words in their entire connotation at the very first acquaintance. The first hand acquaintance with the words of a foreign language should be brief and direct. It is generally noticed that though English words can be used in a variety of phrases to convey different shades of meanings, they are used in the school textbooks to convey a certain meaning which readily appeals to the reader. It is only these certain meanings of words which the field of efforts during the compilation of this Dictionary has been restricted.
Though mainly this is an English into English and Urdu Dictionary a short and easy explanation to almost every word has also been given to enable the students to get used of Learning English through the medium of English. This is essential for gaining proficiency in a living language like English.
